Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you’re considering counselling, clinical hypnotherapy, EFT, or supervision, it’s natural to have questions. Below you’ll find practical information to help you understand what to expect and decide whether my services feel right for you. You are always welcome to message me on 07877 856 622 to discuss your options.
When should I seek help?

You may consider counselling or therapy when the timing feels right for you, particularly if you are:

  • Experiencing emotional shock or burnout

  • Struggling with grief or loss

  • Living with anxiety, stress, or low mood

  • Facing important life decisions or transitions

  • Coping with unwanted behaviours

  • Recovering from trauma

  • Wanting to understand yourself better and reach your potential

You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from support.

How many counselling sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your needs and goals. I offer both short-term and long-term work, and we will regularly review progress together.
Block booking discounts are available.
What are the fees?
  • £50 per 60-minute session (fees reviewed annually).

  • Concessions may be available, including for students and trainee counsellors, please contact me to discuss what options are avalaible.

  • Block booking discounts available.

I work with several Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs), including Care-First, Health Assured, Telus/LifeWorks, and Workplace Options. You may also be able to access support through your employer or associated charities.

I’m a shift worker, I can’t commit to regular weekly sessions!

That is ok. We can work together to establish what could work for you.

How are sessions delivered?

All sessions are held online, providing flexible and confidential access from your own space.

Will I lose control during hypnotherapy?
No. Hypnosis is a natural, voluntary state and all hypnotherapy is essentially self-hypnosis. You remain aware and in control at all times.
Hypnotic states are similar to everyday experiences such as daydreaming or becoming absorbed in a book or film.
Will hypnotherapy work for me?

Most people can be hypnotised. Results are often strongest for those with imagination and motivation to change. Hypnotherapy can also help increase motivation where this feels difficult.

What if I have ADHD?

Some research suggests that people with ADHD can respond particularly well to hypnotherapy due to their ability to enter imaginative and focused states.

Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Counselling is a confidential and non-judgemental space.
The only limits to confidentiality are where there is a legal obligation, such as risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or matters relating to terrorism, money laundering, or drug trafficking.
What type of counselling do you offer?

I work integratively, tailoring therapy to your individual needs. My work is grounded in person-centred counselling and also draws on:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT / REBT)

  • Mindfulness

  • Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

  • Clinical Hypnotherapy

How often will we meet?
Sessions are usually weekly, especially at the beginning, to maintain continuity. Frequency can be reviewed and adjusted to suit you.
How do I pay?

Payment is made via bank transfer (BACS) and is required at least 48 hours in advance of your session.

What are your working hours?

Sessions:

  • Monday–Thursday: 9:00am–8:00pm

  • Friday: 9:00am–1:00pm

Contact hours:

  • Monday–Thursday: 9:00am–8:00pm

  • Friday: 9:00am–5:00pm

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Clinical hypnotherapy uses focused attention to work with the subconscious mind. It is widely recognised and supported by a substantial evidence base.

It can help with:

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Stress and insomnia

  • Confidence and self-esteem

  • Fears and phobias

  • Chronic pain*

  • IBS

  • Migraines

  • High blood pressure

  • Inflamation
  • Menopause-related issues

  • Weight management and smoking cessation

  • Performance, motivation, and self-development

* Medical consultation is recommended for pain-related concerns.

What is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)?

EFT is a complementary self-healing technique that uses gentle tapping on the body’s natural stress-reduction points. It has been shown to reduce anxiety, depression, stress, and phobias, and may also support pain*, cravings, addictions**, weight management, insomnia,  emotional wellbeing and much more.

* Pain: medical consultation required
** Addiction: not recommended where severe physical withdrawal may occur

In September 2012, my parents passed away within 17 days of each other. I have two younger Sisters, plus I was the Executor for my Parents being the eldest child. It was a very busy time for me, sorting financials, looking after and keeping informed my two Sisters, funerals and selling the house. This resulted in me not being able to grieve. This was not too much of a problem for me as I put it in a box to contain it. That said, It was always there, and I visualised it as this ‘box’, situated around the stomach area. ‘It’ occasionally reminded me, that I hadn’t grieved when certain things came up or happened. Time had passed and Sue and I discussed the situation recently, she mentioned a procedure for relieving the situation. As I said previously, this wasn’t a problem for me. However, I realised that I would like to remove this ‘Box’. Sue, and I hope I get this right, suggested E.F.T.! Well, I love these differing ways to try and rectify what affects us. So I decided to give it a go. Well, firstly I wondered how tapping and affirmation would work. I also thought Sue would do the tapping lol! Bit of a rude, amusing realisation, consisting of me following the tapping sequence that Sue did, along with some affirmations, we discussed and I decided on the start of our session with Sue’s lead and input. Totally not what I expected. It, for me was a bit of a strange scenario. It was serious but at time amusing to me, I have an ability to see humour in strange situations, it’s probably an affliction lol! I really have no idea how long our session lasted, I was engrossed in the experience. When it came to an end, this ‘box’ had gone, plus my hands were shaking or more correctly, my fingers, were vibrating as if energy was pouring through them. This was a physical happening, not some trance or hypnotic state. A new experience for me. I fully confess, I didn’t expect this to work, I still cannot offer an explanation to what occurred. What I do know is that this really worked, it’s probably a month, six weeks ago now, my little ‘box’ has truly gone. It was an amazing experience. I fully recommend Sue Mort as a genuine, caring and well qualified practitioner in her chosen fields. It worked for me, against my expectations, it can also work for you. I recommend getting in touch with Sue, to see what she can do for you.

Owner's reply
Hi John, thank you for your review. I'm glad that the "box" related to your grief, that you wanted to remove, has "truly gone" and that you found EFT an "amazing experience". I remember the energy shifts you experienced were really apparent!

Excellent, I've had a series of hypnotherapy sessions with Sue and I feel there is a clear path for real change. There was an extra audio note session I had for a promotion interview and not only did I notice my confidence and how calm I was so did my colleagues. I also got the promotion. The tools I have learned from the sessions, have really helped in hard times and they are now lifelong positive mechanisms.

Owner's reply
Thank you Kieran. I am so pleased for you and so glad you feel you have “lifelong positive mechanisms”!

Sue helped me to actually do what I wanted to do: give up smoking. Through her insight into what makes me tick and her understanding of what my motivations and triggers are, Sue tapped into my better self. This helped me put self care before impulsive urges. Sue’s hypnotism sessions allow you to think in a different way; to dare to swerve from your normal destructive thought patterns and ultimately not to be a slave to your impulses. I thoroughly recommend Sue as a hypnotherapist. Her expert consultation, use of tapping techniques and her ability to relax you into a state of hypnotism make her an excellent and effective therapist.

Owner's reply
I'm so pleased about your success Cath! Thank you so much for your wonderful review - very grateful. Sue

A relaxing hour with a very knowledgeable and professional practitioner. After only one session I found great benefit from the carefully chosen words that Sue had used in the Hypnotherapy script, which I listen to daily and reap the benefits.

Owner's reply
Thank you Jane! So glad you found the session relaxing and still listening daily to your audio and that you’re reaping the benefits after only one session.

Working with Sue on her Holistic Weight Wellness programme has been a total game changer for me and I cannot recommend her to highly enough! She is warm , professional, and I felt safe. After the initial session the following hypnotherapy sessions were personally focussed on a different aspect I felt I needed to work on such as ; emotional / binge eating, speeding up my metabolism, mind-full eating and feeling full, attitudes to movement / exercise and a visualisation to envision my future self and how she behaved. At first I hardly noticed lots of difference however as the weeks have gone by I became more and more aware the hypnosis work with Sue was leading to small incremental change’s towards food and movement and I now feel it has built a “safe”and secure foundation. I have shed a stone in weight without counting calories or “dieting” rather I am focusing on how a healthy person eats & moves etc. These changes have continued even though I completed the programme a number of weeks ago and I have started to form a new self image about what I choose to eat ,drink and do and the weight is continuing to be shed slowly in what feels a very permanent way. if you feel stuck and lack belief you can change then Sues programme is what you need ….Go for it !

Owner's reply
Thanks for those kind words Eryl! I'm so pleased that the 5 session weight wellness programme has worked so well for you and that you continuing to make the changes that are important to you. Well done you!
